PAF officer killed rescuing woman in Islamabad laid to rest with full military honours
Group Captain Asim Tariq Shaheed, a Pakistan Air Force officer who embraced martyrdom while intervening to rescue a woman in distress in Islamabad, was laid to rest with full military honours on Tuesday, with Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu leading the funeral prayers.
RAWALPINDI, July 7 (Reuters) – Group Captain Asim Tariq Shaheed, a Pakistan Air Force officer who was killed while courageously intervening to rescue a woman in distress in Islamabad, was laid to rest with full military honours on Tuesday, the military's media wing said.
The funeral prayers were attended by Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, along with senior officers, airmen and a large gathering of civilians who paid their final respects to the valiant officer.
The chief of air staff paid rich tribute to the martyred officer, stating that his sacrifice epitomised the finest traditions of the Pakistan Air Force and the armed forces. He observed that by laying down his life while protecting an innocent citizen, Group Captain Asim Tariq demonstrated that PAF personnel remain steadfast in their commitment not only to safeguarding the nation's frontiers but also to protecting the lives, dignity and honour of their fellow countrymen.
The officer was buried with full military honours in recognition of his exceptional courage, selfless devotion and unwavering sense of duty.
