US Signs Agreement to Build Permanent Embassy in Occupied Jerusalem
During a signing ceremony held on Wednesday, Gideon Sa'ar, Israel’s foreign minister, and Mike Huckabee, the US ambassador to Israel, presented the land allocation agreement for the permanent American embassy in occupied Jerusalem.
Speaking at the ceremony at Israel’s Foreign Ministry, Mike Huckabee stated that the United States recognizes Jerusalem as the eternal and historic capital of the Jewish people. He said the US would establish a permanent diplomatic complex in Jerusalem, which would serve as the central hub for American diplomatic operations in Israel.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar welcomed the agreement, calling it a reflection of the unbreakable alliance between Israel and the United States.
According to the official statement, the new embassy will be built at the Allenby Compound in southern occupied Jerusalem.
Meanwhile, Adalah, an Israeli human rights organization, condemned the project, stating that the move effectively legitimizes a deep historical injustice.
Jerusalem remains one of the most disputed cities in the Middle East, with Palestine seeking East Jerusalem as the capital of a future Palestinian state.
It is worth noting that during his first presidential term, Donald Trump recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital in December 2017 and ordered the relocation of the US diplomatic mission from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
