Karachi Establishes Special Police Station to Crack Down on Water Theft
Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab formally inaugurated the facility, describing it as a landmark initiative aimed at strengthening action against water theft, illegal water connections, and the hydrant mafia.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the mayor said the Water Corporation has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against water theft and other illegal activities affecting the city's water supply.
He noted that this is the first time in Karachi's history that a special police station has been established under the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation Act, granting it full legal authority to investigate and prosecute water-related offences.
Murtaza Wahab said all cases involving water theft will now be registered at the dedicated police station, ensuring faster case registration, more transparent investigations, and more effective legal proceedings.
He further stated that the special unit will take strict and indiscriminate action against individuals and groups involved in water theft, unauthorized hydrants, illegal water connections, and the misuse of public water resources.
The initiative is expected to strengthen law enforcement efforts and improve the protection and management of Karachi's water supply system.
