Pakistan, Bangladesh Sign Historic Anti-Drug Cooperation Agreement

During the meeting, both sides agreed to establish a secretary-level Joint Working Group between the two interior ministries to enhance bilateral coordination on security and law enforcement matters.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Mohsin Naqvi on behalf of the Government of Pakistan, while Salahuddin Ahmed signed on behalf of the Government of Bangladesh.
Under the agreement, both countries will cooperate closely to prevent the illegal transportation and smuggling of narcotics. The two sides also pledged joint efforts to combat the growing trend of drug abuse and its harmful effects on society.
Officials said Pakistan and Bangladesh would formulate a joint strategy to dismantle illegal drug supply chains and improve coordination between relevant agencies through timely intelligence sharing regarding drug traffickers and criminal networks.
The agreement also includes cooperation in training personnel, adopting modern technology, and sharing best practices for narcotics control and prevention.
During the talks, Mohsin Naqvi offered full support to Bangladesh for the Safe City Project, stating that Pakistan would extend every possible assistance in the initiative.
The two ministers also discussed enhancing cooperation in bilateral relations, internal security, civil armed forces training, counterterrorism, human trafficking prevention, cybercrime, organized crime, and financial fraud investigations.
Both sides exchanged views on joint counterterrorism measures and discussed collaboration in police academy training programs for officers.
Mohsin Naqvi invited his Bangladeshi counterpart to visit Pakistan, while Salahuddin Ahmed thanked Pakistan for its offer of cooperation regarding the Safe City Project.
Senior Bangladeshi officials, including Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam, Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani, Home Secretary Mansur Chowdhury, and Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh Imran Haider, were also present during the meeting.
