Pakistan Marks International Day of Migratory Birds with Renewed Commitment to Wildlife Conservation

The day was marked through awareness campaigns, educational activities, and conservation initiatives organized by environmental departments, wildlife organizations, and educational institutions across the country. Experts emphasized the significance of Pakistan as an important route for thousands of migratory birds travelling along the Indus Flyway each year.
Officials noted that wetlands, lakes, and coastal areas in Pakistan provide vital resting and breeding grounds for migratory birds arriving from Siberia, Central Asia, and other regions during seasonal migrations. They stressed the need for stronger conservation measures to combat habitat destruction, climate change, pollution, and illegal hunting.
In his message on the occasion, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said migratory birds are an important part of the global ecosystem and a symbol of nature’s balance and beauty. He urged collective efforts to protect biodiversity and ensure a safe environment for wildlife for future generations.
President Asif Ali Zardari also reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to environmental protection and wildlife conservation, calling for greater public awareness about the ecological importance of migratory birds and wetlands.
Environmentalists and wildlife experts called on citizens to support conservation efforts by protecting natural habitats and discouraging illegal hunting activities. They also urged authorities to strengthen monitoring systems and enforce wildlife protection laws more effectively.
The International Day of Migratory Birds is observed annually to raise awareness about the conservation of migratory bird species and the need for international cooperation to safeguard their habitats.
