Pakistan Launches Cross-Border Strikes in Afghanistan; Tensions Escalate

The operation primarily targeted locations in Afghanistan’s eastern provinces. In Paktika Province, particularly the Barmal district, fighter jets reportedly hit militant sanctuaries with precision. Loud explosions were heard across surrounding areas, and significant damage to infrastructure allegedly used by militants was reported.
Afghan media sources stated that after Paktika, airstrikes were also conducted in Nangarhar Province, including the Khogyani district, where suspected militant hideouts and training centers were targeted.
In the Margha area, an explosion at the Banoosi madrassa reportedly left more than 10 people dead and several others injured. The location is said to have links with the network of Commander Akhtar Muhammad.
Additionally, two targets were successfully struck by jets in the Kama district of Jalalabad, Nangarhar, as aerial surveillance operations continued in the region.
Sources further indicated that the targeted militant infrastructure was linked to groups described by Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting as “Khawarij elements” and affiliated networks operating along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. The ministry stated that the operation was conducted as a defensive response to terrorist threats, emphasizing precision and efforts to avoid collateral damage.
There has been no immediate official response from Afghan authorities regarding the reported strikes.
