funeral held for chaudhry aslam in pakistan’s karachi.

The funeral for a Pakistani toughest cop, Chaudhry Aslam, killed in a bomb blast on Thursday has taken place on Friday (January 10) in Pakistan’s commercial hub Karachi amid tight security.

The time and venue of funeral prayers were changed at the last minute for security reasons.

High profile police and politicians attended including the chief minister of Sindh province

Participants had to pass through walk-through scanners to reach the prayer ground, and mobile phone signals were jammed.

All the roads around the venue were closed for traffic. After the prayers, a police squad formed a guard of honour, and wreaths were placed on the three coffins.

Earlier, a powerful explosion targeted on a convoy of police vehicles in Pakistan’s Karachi on Thursday (January 9) killing Chaudhry Aslam.

Initial findings had suggested that the bomb had been placed in a thick cemented barrier near a ramp of the expressway. When Aslam's caravan reached the ramp, the bomb went off.

Investigations into the bombing are still under way. One report in the local paper says that about 200kg (440lb) of explosives were used.

Chaudhry Aslam, the head of Karachi's anti-terror unit, had survived a number of attempts on his life but was killed in a bomb attack on his convoy.
