14 Children Killed After Tuition Center Roof Collapses in Lahore’s Kahna Area
According to Punjab Health Minister, 14 children lost their lives in the devastating incident. Rescue officials said 20 to 25 children, along with a female teacher, were present inside the tuition center at the time of the collapse.
Rescue teams received the emergency call at approximately 4:45 PM and immediately launched an operation. Officials confirmed that 5 to 6 children were rescued from the debris. After receiving initial medical treatment, 2 children were discharged, while 4 injured children remain under treatment and are reported to be out of danger.
Local residents stated that the children had gathered at the academy for tuition classes. Police said construction work was underway on the upper floor of the building, while students were studying on the ground floor when the roof suddenly collapsed.
Authorities have taken five individuals associated with the tuition center into custody, and a full investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the incident.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow over the loss of precious lives in the Kahna tragedy. He offered condolences to the bereaved families, prayed for the departed souls, and directed authorities to provide the best possible medical care to the injured.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz took notice of the incident and sought a detailed report from the concerned authorities. She also ordered the provision of the best medical facilities for the injured children.
Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari stated that the tuition center was operating inside a residential building. She said the dilapidated structure was irresponsibly used for teaching children without proper repairs, raising serious concerns over building safety and negligence.
